Founded in 1999, Cove Park creates year‐round funded and self-funded residencies across all art forms for national and international artists, collaborative groups and organisations. Cove Park is located on an outstanding 50-acre site over looking Loch Long on Scotland's west coast (about 60 minutes from Glasgow by road or rail).
On 11-18 November 2019 Cove Park held its second Translation Week, in partnership with the National Centre for Writing. Translation Week brings together a group of up to 7 literary translators working into English for a week-long residency (alongside two translators working out of English). During the day, participating translators have time to focus on their own translation projects. In the evenings, there are opportunities to discuss work in progress with their peers and share any translation challenges they face. All translators are offered self-catering accommodation free of charge and £150 towards the cost of travel and living expenses.
In 2019, the participating translators included Kari Dickson (workshop leader), Polly Barton (Japanese), Jozefina Komporaly (Hungarian and Romanian), Jozef van der Voort (Dutch and German), Zoë Perry (Portuguese), Katherine Mendelsohn (French) and Ayça Türkoğlu (Turkish and German). Of this group, two were specifically supported by Language Acts and Worldmaking: Jozefina Komporaly, a translator of contemporary theatre and fiction from Hungarian and Romanian into English, and Katherine Mendelsohn, a translator of Francophone contemporary plays from France, Africa, Québec and Belgium.
