Festival of Italian Literature in London 2019

Launched in 2017, the Festival of Italian Literature in London brings together writers and thinkers to discuss literature, politics, migration, translation and contemporary topics at the Coronet Theatre, Notting Hill, London.

In November 2019 Language Acts and Worldmaking supported the 2019 edition of FILL to put on two events:

The Future of Democracy (Sat 2 Nov, 2.30pm Coronet Theatre)

Author Ece Temelkuran, author of How to Lose a Country: the 7 Steps from Democracy to Dictatorship , and historian Andrea Mammone discussed the rise of the 'strong man' form of government around the world.

The Italian Job (Sun 3 Nove, 2.30pm Coronet Theatre)

Trade unionist and author Aboubakar Soumahoro explained situation of migrant labourers in Italy. Soumahoro was in discussion with the journalist Daniel Trilling, author of the recent Lights in the Distance: Exile and Refuge at the Borders of Europe (Picador, 2018).

For 2019, FILL raised money for the charities Crisis, Open Arms, and Médecins Sans Frontières UK.
