our words make worlds

Languages Memory: Conference

In our first conference, Languages Memory, we want to enliven our awareness of the ways in which languages are experienced, practised, taught and researched. We will reflect upon the place of language learning and engage with the material and historical force of languages in the world.

Conference sessions all respond to the central theme of Languages Memory in innovative and creative ways, working across a wide range of disciplines and methodologies. Sessions will include expert panels, drama and soundscape workshops, poetry presentations, and autoethnographic reflections. The conference programme also includes a specially invited keynote address, and expert policy panel:

Keynote Lecture: Juan Luis Suárez, Director, CulturePlex

Languages Policy, Expert Discussion: Professor Terry Lamb, Professor of Languages and Interdisciplinary Pedagogy, University of Westminster; Lid King, The Languages Company; Wendy Ayres-Bennett, University of Cambridge.

Public Programme

Alongside the main body of the conference, there will be a series of associated public events also related to the theme of Languages Memory:

Languages Inheritance, Author and Translator Roundtable, 18:00–19:00, 13 June 2018

Migrant Shores, Poetry Reading, 18:00–19:00, 12 June 2018
